The survey examines the professional situation and future prospects of music teachers in Switzerland, based on a survey of almost 400 participants. The majority of respondents (over 60%) have a master's degree and are mainly engaged in private music teaching (66%). Differences in working hours show that 37% spend less than a quarter of their working time teaching, while 40% express a desire for more teaching time. Challenges include increased price pressure, the difficulty in finding new students and the challenge in retaining them. Lack of time time being the most common reason why students quit music lessons (60%). The attitude toward technologies such as music learning apps is predominantly positive (54% do not see them as a threat), while AI is not yet widely used. Despite the challenges, most respondents feel well prepared for the future. One-fifth feel a lack of appreciation in their profession, while many would like to see higher incomes and more performances/gigs. More detailed surveys are desirable to dig deeper into the professional situation of teachers. Matchspace Music plans to repeat the survey in May 2026 to observe developments over time.
