If early musical education or private music lessons, there are many ways to learn how to play an instrument as a child.
If early musical education or private music lessons, there are many ways to learn how to play an instrument as a child.
Learning to play an instrument is also beneficial for children at a young age in many ways
Making music is good for building new synapses for young and old
Practice makes perfect, this is already true for the little ones
Reduces stress and has a calming effect on young and older people
Making music in a group can help create a feeling of accomplishment
In private one-on-one lessons, the lesson takes place directly between the child and the music teacher. Either at the parent’s home, or in a studio with the music teacher of choice. Private lessons for children usually do not take place online.
Group lessons take place with several other children. Usually at a similar age level and with similar experience. Depending on the age, this format encourages making music together. This is often the case with early musical education.
In addition to the first two formats, there are supplementary lessons, e.g. parent-child formats or special foster programs for particularly talented music students in music schools.
From public music schools to individual private lessons, there is something for every child.
There are public music schools in almost every town in Switzerland. The lessons usually start with the enrollment of the child and are partly financed by the public sector. Registration usually happens in May/June or October/November for at least one semester in advance. It is possible that lessons are held individually or in groups and mostly at the place of the music school.
Especially in urban areas or in the agglomeration you can also find offers of private music schools. At private music schools, the lessons are not subsidized, but the registration deadlines are usually more flexible and registrations are also possible during the year. The place of teaching in most cases is at the location of the music school and depending on the offer, individual or group lessons are offered.
Private music lessons are the most flexible and individual way for your child to learn a musical instrument. Private music teachers either have their own studio or teach directly at the child's home. Depending on your needs, you can also buy smaller subscription packages (e.g. from three lessons). Private lessons are not funded by the public sector and are practically always held on a one-to-one basis.
The SMPV is the professional association for music and education in Switzerland. The teachers of the SMPV are all graduated and highly qualified to teach children or young people. All members have at least a master's degree in music education. The pricing policy is established by the SMPV.
Music teachers who already teach at a public music school can be found on the subpages of the respective music schools of the VMS. Here, too, much emphasis is put on the education of the teachers. The teachers often have a master's degree in music education or performance. The pricing policy is based on the specifications of the respective music school.
For private lessons and especially when dealing with children, make sure that teachers have a degree in music pedagogy or are at least in education at a music conservatory in Switzerland. The prices are set either by the teacher or in our case by the platform.
