Private lessons are the most common way to learn an instrument or singing and is usually only between one teacher and a music student. This is the most individual way and gives the student the possibility to achieve goals fast. Private lessons are flexible and can even happen at your home.
Playing an instrument in a group and with people of the same age is fantastic for seniors. Of course it is a little bit less tailored to individual needs, but the social interchange with other seniors is great to make new connections and stay in touch.
For those that are limited in their range and time can always consider online music lessons. This might not be the best option for elderly people or seniors but it still is very convenient and easy to organize with a phone or a laptop at hand.
From private lessons to public music schools – your options are endless.
Public music schools exist almost everywhere in Switzerland and lessons usually take place on the premises of the school. The lesson times are almost always fixed on a regular basis and time for at least one semester. Usually students are limited in their choice when lessons take place and which teacher is assigned. Special offers for seniors are different from school to school.
Private music schools are often to be found in urban areas and usually also offer music lessons at the premises of the school. The timing of the lessons during a week are usually more flexible as compared to a public music school and subscriptions are mostly shorter than a full semester. Some private schools have special formats for seniors that would like to learn an instrument.
Private music lessons as such is the most flexible option to learn an instrument or to sing. Lessons take place at the place of the student, at the teacher’s studio or even online. Date and time of the lessons is agreed individually and can vary from week to week for the ultimate flexibility.
Some musical instruments are pretty expensive – renting might be a good option if you want to try it first.
